Nio EP9 Destroys Lamborghini's Just-Broken Nurburgring Lap Record
https://www.motor1.com/news/145350/nio-ep9-nurburgring-lap-record/?utm_source=insi
Only months after Lamborghini broke the Nurburgring lap record for production cars, electric car manufacturer NIO have come along and shattered the Raging Bull's time with their EP9 hypercar.
The EP9 flew round the Green Hell in 6 minutes and 45.90 seconds - a full 19.22 seconds faster than their previous attempt and just shy of seven seconds faster than the Lambo which did the 'Ring in 6:52.01.
Gerry Hughes, Head of Performance Program & FE Team Principal at NIO said "In October 2016, we aimed to set a new lap record for an electric vehicle with our NIO EP9. In the inclemental weather that the Nürburgring Nordschleife is known for, the EP9 completed two laps of the 20.8 km (12.9m) ‘Green Hell’, one of which was in 7m 05.12s, beating the previous EV lap record, making it the fastest electric car in the world. The EP9’s new lap record is 19.22 seconds faster than its previous lap time. This is a fabulous achievement for NIO and I am very proud of the team that has worked tirelessly to achieve this accolade.”
In terms of performance, the EP9 can output a full megawatt of power (1000kW, or 1342bhp) and can reach a top speed of 313kmh. NIO evidently think 0-100 times are too plebeian and give instead a 0-200 time - 7.1 seconds. The EP9 is a very fast car indeed.
Last month the marque announced that it will produce a second batch of ten EP9s, each to be made to order and priced at US$1.48 million (NZ$2.15 million).
NIO also have plans to have to have autonomous electric vehicles in the U.S market by 2020, and showed off the NIO ES8 7-seater all-electric SUV soon destined for the China market at the just-gone Shanghai Motor Show.
“As a company, we were born to push limits. Setting and breaking records with our EP9 is for the sole purpose to show the world that we have the automotive and technical expertise to succeed in the global automotive market. Our vision is to be the best of the next generation of car companies by producing the smartest vehicles in world,” said Padmasree Warrior, CEO, NIO, U.S.
Unfortunately there is no news regarding a New Zealand launch, but of course, we will let you know as soon as word breaks. Meanwhile, look at the monster of a rear wing NIO have put on the EP9. It's three-way adjustable, and four-way adjustable suspension plus Alcon brakes allow the car to offer 2.53g of cornering force at 230kmh. Not bad, huh?

Lotus 3-Eleven Tests At 'Ring, 7:00 Lap In Sight: Video

Lotus has been something of an anomaly among Britain’s traditional car brands of late. While others have enjoyed success after success, the Norfolk firm has been desperately short of the investment needed to produce new models, and thus forced to continually bring to market different versions of the Elise and Evora. The Lotus Exige is, without question, one of the best sports cars on sale today. The unassisted steering and lightweight body makes it one of the most engaging cars to drive, while the raucous V6 engine provides ample shove. If the best thing you can do with a car is to drive it, then the best thing to do during Monterey Car Week is to drive a classic. I can think of no better place to drive a classic than at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, so I packed up my 1956 Lotus Eleven sports racer and headed to California's Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
Lotus says its open-top 3-Eleven is the "quickest and most powerful production Lotus road car ever."
But calling it a "road car" is subjective, because buyers in the United States won't be able to register the featherweight roadster, though race versions will be available. And that's just fine, as the latest Lotus will shine its brightest at the track.

2016 Audi R8 LMS GT3 Race Car Ready For Order
http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1097014_2016-audi-r8-lms-gt3-race-car-ready-for-
Back at the Geneva Auto Show, Audi unveiled the Audi R8 LMS, the 2016 Audi R8-based race car. About half of the R8 LMS is comprised of parts from the production model, while the other half includes a GT3-spec roll cage and other racing equipment. However, to conform to racing regulations, the R8 LMS is rear-drive, not all-wheel like the street car. The 5.2 liter V10 makes 585 bhp in race spec (the street V10 makes 540 hp, with the V10 Plus cranking out 610). The body of the car is fitted with all kinds of race-ish goods, including a fixed rear spoiler, wide body extensions, and a plethora of air intakes fitted to the newly-angular R8 bodywork. Audi just announced the pricing for the R8 LMS today. For €398,000 ($446,000 at today's exchange rate) you can buy this race car and never drive it around town because it's not street-legal at all—but if you've got a pit crew and a team of drivers, you can drive it for several hours in any of a number of endurance racing series worldwide.
